Research evaluation

A research evaluation will be conducted during 2009 at three universities forming Aalto University.

The purpose of the evaluation is to assess the research of the three institutions in terms of its scientific level and societal influence as well as determine their research potential at an international level. The evaluation will be conducted by panels of international experts. The evaluation results will be utilized in the strategic planning of the new university.

The Board selected Professor Marja Makarow, Vice Chair of the Aalto University Foundation Board, as chair of the research evaluation advisory group. Other members of the advisory group include Professor, PhD Jarl-Thure Eriksson (Tampere University of Technology), Spokesperson, PhD (Econ.) Mikko Kosonen (Sitra), Professor Arto Mustajoki (University of Helsinki), and Professor Tuula Teeri (Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden).

Subordinate to the advisory group is a working group, and its members include: Professor and Vice Rector Outi Krause (TKK), Professor and Vice Rector Pekka Korvenmaa (TaiK), Professor and Vice Rector Timo Saarinen (HSE), Professor Yves Doz (HSE), Professor Yrjänä Levanto (TaiK), and Professor Mikko Paalanen (TKK). Research Planning Officer, Antti Saaristo (HSE) was selected to serve as Secretary. He also acts as the project manager of the research evaluation.
