Aalto University and IT operations

The three universities forming Aalto University united their IT operations on 1 September 2008. The IT operations of the University of Art and Design Helsinki were integrated into the joint IT operations of the Helsinki School of Economics and the Helsinki University of Technology, a liaison introduced earlier same year.

The shared IT operations of Aalto University will have two units: IT Administration and IT Services. The actual production of services is under the responsibility of the IT Services which is responsible for the functionality of email and networks, for example. IT Administration is in charge of policy-making and the management of IT operations. Its responsibilities include, for example, information security, customer surveys, service systems, and management of IT development projects.

IT operations are based on a Customer-Producer model where the IT Administration acts as the customer and the IT Services as the producer.
