Aalto University visual identity contest gathered alltogether 117 contest entries from the students, staff and alumni of the Helsinki School of Economics, University of Art and Design Helsinki and Helsinki University of Technology. Contest was organized in cooperation with the Association of Professional Graphic Designers in Finland (Grafia), the Finnish Association of Designers (Ornamo) and the Finnish Association of Architects (SAFA) in March, 2 – April, 17, 2009. The web-based mission and vision discussion mapped partners’ and the community’s conceptions concerning Aalto University’s mission and vision 2020 statements. The preliminary drafts of the mission and vision generated mainly a positive response, but also aroused some critical comments.Invitation and Call for Papers
The 5th World Conference on Mass Customization and Personalization (MCPC 2009) takes place 4-8 October 2009 in Helsinki and Espoo in Finland. This year the theme is Match Making. Wireless charging furniture will be launched at Design Factory 3.4.2009

The first wireless charging furniture in the world have been developed by Martela and Powerkiss. The set includes one meeting room table and one coffee table. They are on display and ready for trial at Design Factory (Betonimiehenkuja 5, Espoo), 3rd of April 2009 at 10.30-21.00.

The Board of Aalto University has granted funding for a three-year period for the aivoAALTO research project, which utilizes modern brain imaging methods to examine brain basis of social interaction and decision-making, as well as the effect of cinema on the human mind. The project is based on TKK’s solid expertise in brain imaging and systems neuroscience, combined with TaiK’s film research (neurocinematics) and HSE’s research on financial decision-making (neuroeconomics). An external expert was also consulted for a statement concerning the research project. The project is spearheaded by Professor Riitta Hari.

Aalto University Foundation is organizing a design contest for students, staff and alumni of Helsinki School of Economics, University of Art and Design Helsinki and Helsinki University of Technology concerning the visual identity of Aalto University in in cooperation with the Association of Professional Graphic Designers in Finland (Grafia), the Finnish Association of Designers (Ornamo) and the Finnish Association of Architects (SAFA). The contest period is March 2 – April 17, 2009.
